Build your Financial Story with Claude Skills and MCP in 15 minutes

We combined an MCP server with a Claude skill so the model pulls real data from NetSuite, analyzes it, and asks you 3 sharp questions per page before writing a word. Your judgment goes in.

Every CFO I talk to thinks they understand AI. They paste a P&L into Claude. They ask for board commentary. They read the output. They ship it.

Then a board member asks the third question, and the story falls apart.

The numbers were right. The commentary was wrong. Every reason Claude gave was a guess dressed up as analysis. Plausible words. Made-up causation. A board narrative the CFO did not write attached to numbers the CFO did not verify.

This is the gap nobody is talking about.

There are two ways to use Claude in finance.

  1. The first is what most people do. Open a chat window. Paste data. Ask for output. Ship the hallucination. This is the operating model every AI demo has trained you to expect, and it produces board decks that do not survive contact with your audit committee.

  2. The second is what the CFOs running the new operating model do. They never paste data. They never write prompts from scratch. They never ship something Claude wrote without their judgment in it.

They stacked three layers and let the architecture do the work.

  • An MCP server connects Claude directly to NetSuite. The data is live. Every number traces to a ledger entry. Claude cannot make anything up because Claude cannot see anything except what the ledger actually says.

  • A Claude skill defines the workflow. Group the reports. Confirm the period. Analyze the data. Ask the CFO three sharp questions per page. The skill is the recipe. Claude does not improvise it.

  • Claude’s intelligence sits on top, reading the data, generating the three questions that capture the judgment the model cannot produce on its own.

We are teaching AI to ask questions instead of inventing answers.

That is the entire shift.

It changes how board decks get built. How close commentary gets written. How variance analysis flows from data into a narrative your board will trust. How a finance team of 30 produces the output of a finance team of 100.

If you are still pasting P&Ls into a chat window in June 2026, you are not behind on tooling. You are working from an operating model that ended in May.

Today we opened our demo to finance leaders for the first time. The full flow is below the paid wall, because the system would not survive 90,000 readers hitting it at once.

If the next sentence of this newsletter makes you want to log in and build a board story with your own hands, you are exactly who we built finstory for.

You can turn your real numbers into a financial story.

Let’s dive in.
